One of Rethinking Westchester Government's founders suggests that consolidation of the Hudson Valley's three county governments might be one way of saving the taxpayers money.
Feiner's entire proposal can be found on this website, along with other suggestions by taxpayers to "right-size" county government a bit.
As expected, Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano's office took their bites at Feiner for daring to speak up.
"I feel county government is really removed from the people, anyway," Feiner said yesterday. "This is just another way of looking at consolidation.
"This way, you keep the existing infrastructure," he said. "My feeling is that county government is the easiest government to consolidate because no one identifies with it."
The Journal News reported that consolidation of county government is not part of New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's plan -- nor is it part of Rethinking Westchester Government's plan.
But at least Mr. Feiner is daring to think out of the box.
