Former Congressman Joe DioGuardi, who represented Westchester County in the House of Representatives from 1985 to 1989, has joined the executive board of Rethinking Westchester Government.
In addition to being the first practicing Certifed Public Accountant elected to Congress, DioGuardi as a partner with the accounting firm Arthur Andersen served on a special commission to address New York City's financial crisis in the 1970s. DioGuardi also heads Truth In Government, the not-for-profit organization dedicated to establish better accountability and transparency in fiscal reporting in the public sector.
The addition of DioGuardi to Rethinking brings an experienced fiduciary element to the county reform effort. DioGuardi also joined with Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner this week to circulate a "Tax Day" petition to nearly 4,000 local civic leaders throughout Westchester County.
We welcome Joe's involvement in the group and look forward to shedding greater fiscal light on the county government operation. In the works for Rethinking will be the formation of a Fiduciary Committee, composed of accountants and fiscal analysts (along with anyone who would like to assist us in crunching County Government's budget numbers.
