Dear Westchester County Civic Leader:
On April 15, Tax Day for most Americans, a group of Westchester residents will circulate the enclosed petition throughout Westchester County, calling on county residents to abolish Westchester County government.
Rethinking Westchester Government would like to invite you to join us in the fight to end our county’s distinction of paying the highest property taxes in the United States.
- We want the County to form a Citizens Budget Commission to look for ways to cut wasteful spending.
- We want the Citizens Budget Commission to study the impact of abolishing County government as did Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
- Voters should have the ability to petition for a referendum to consolidate or eliminate our multiple layers of government.
- Voters should have the right to vote on the County budget each year, just as taxpayers in most communities can vote on school budgets each year.
