Rethinking Westchester Government has been examining several options for reform of County Government; including a few ideas that our legal team believes might be possible to put on the November ballot.
In the same spirit of reform, we're planning an April 15th Tax Day Tea Party.
Tax Day is Change Day!!!
Our Tea Party won't be too different from a thousand Tax Day efforts around the United States, except Rethinking Westchester Government wanted to do more about complain about high taxes.
We're suggesting a few solutions. Also, we have formulated a pledge and some options on our petition that can start getting residents throughout the northern suburbs of New York City thinking about changing county government.
We, the undersigned, believe that Westchester County should not have the highest real estate property taxes in the United States.
In addition to our tax pledge, Rethinking has four proposals:
-
Citizens Budget Commission
- Study On Alternative County Government
- Initiative and Referenda
- County Budget Vote/County Budget Cap
We feel our proposed reforms are reasonable, applicable to Westchester County's needs and achievable with current New York State law -- but it's going to take some work.
So if you're interested in helping us, either gathering signatures or promoting our effort -- or joining any of our planning committees -- please reach out to us at info@rethinkingwestchestergov.com
The effort was initiated with a letter from former Congressman Joe DioGuardi and Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner mailed to civic leaders in every municipality throughout Westchester County.
